Recharge Your Batteries

We’re all feeling the pressure of a fragile economy pushing down on our shoulders every day. Even if you’ve worked hard, gotten a little lucky, and put yourself in an economic situation that has a decent chance of riding out this storm it still hurts to see what you’ve worked so hard for evaporate so quickly. Plus, you can still feel guilty for not being able to help more of those around you. Maybe you own a small company that has reaped you generous rewards over the years but now you face laying off employees. Maybe you have a solid job that is paying the bills, but your cousin and her family are fighting off eviction notices. It doesn’t take too many degrees of separation to find all of us buried in the middle of this economic reset and the true sadness it has created for so many.
Times are hard. Harder than most of us have been willing to admit to ourselves. Hopefully that recognition will grow stronger soon and we can all begin to work together towards solutions instead of turning to our governments for easy answers that never prove to be enough or that easy in the long run.
But in order to fight the good fight we also need to make sure that we’re taking care of ourselves. We need to be recharging our batteries from time to time to make sure we have the energy to produce results instead of just worry. Rest and recreation (R&R) is a long understood benefit to those under stress. Recreational escapes should not be seen as luxuries even in this climate. They are keys to the solution.
To that end I encourage all of you to look at your financial situation, be wise, but also realize that investing in your own happiness, investing in even just a few days away from your problems, can end up creating dividends down the line.
Allow yourself a small luxury trip away from home. If nothing else it will remind you why you work so hard to earn your money in the first place. It will re-energize you to do whatever you can to make sure that the future holds continued abundance not just for you but for those around you. Become energized so that there can be even more days of fun ahead.
Life is not about earning money. It is about the things that we experience as with the people we care about. Having security is wonderful. I wish we lived in some sort of Utopian world where we could all wake up in the morning and simply be creative in the area we find most interesting and reward each other with our results. But that isn’t the world we live in. Our world is about turning $1 worth of steel into $10 worth of product and the system that is created by doing so. But when that system breaks down, like it has now, the pain is felt from top to bottom.
There will need to be more sacrifice from top to bottom and hard work from everyone involved in this economy. Hard choices are still ahead for all of us. Recharge your batteries whenever you can, however you can. This is going to be a long fight. We need you at your best.
